Memento Mori
These somber scents of clay, stone, and stillness are inspired by All Souls’ Day.
Nuanced with notes of ozone, earth, and moss.
Behind the Inspiration
The practice of “memento mori,” or “remember you will die,” is a reminder that one day this life will end and we will stand in judgment before God. Keeping death before our eyes inspires us to live well, for God and others. This candle’s scents recall our future burial and trustful waiting for Christ’s return to raise the dead to life.
The feast of All Souls is November 2.

You’ll get the cleanest, longest, and safest burn from your candle with a few simple steps:
- Always trim the wick before lighting to 1/8”–1/4”
- Burn until the melted wax reaches edge to edge, or very nearly, to reduce tunneling
- Burn only up to 4 hours at a time
- Always keep a burning candle in sight, away from flammable materials, out of drafts, out of reach of pets and children, and on a heat-safe surface
- Keep out of direct sunlight
I absolutely love the CORDA candles. I use it in the morning during my Holy Hour while it is still dark outside. The scent is wonderful and not overpowering at all. And the candle has an almost etheric glow. Perfect for my time with the Lord.
I just love Corda candles and wanted to try some new scents and offered a selection to my friends as gifts. Although I have not tried it yet, I'm sure it will be as good as all the others! I chose Momento Mori to prepare for Lent and Holy Week although it would also be good to burn it occasionally to remind me to "die daily" and offer up my sufferings for the salvation of souls.
Hi Anna, the reason I ordered Momento Mori is because of the season of All Souls. I purchased them as gifts for two of our children with birthdays in November. It has a wonderful scent and my hope is that the name reminds them of their short time here on earth. Thank you for sharing your gifts and helping to build up the kingdom. Fill the air with a distinct smell that is both grounding and unique. Perfect for All Hallows Eve, All Saints Day and All Souls’ Day! This candle is the perfect balance of musk/smoke notes and light/floral notes. You won’t regret giving it a whiff!
Memento Mori has the perfect balance of a fresh, grounded scent. When you don't want something too flowery or fruity, or too musky or smokey.
Memento Mori
This is my 2nd one of this scent. I wasn’t sure what “clay + stone + stillness” would smell like. Now it’s my favorite. I am sensitive to some fragrances and am very picky about candles. This one is not too earthy or masculine - but “still”. Pleasant and not overbearing, but somehow familiar. I find it very calming and peaceful.
I LOVE this candle. I ordered it for Lent and, in particular, to take up a daily reminder to pray for and with the Holy Souls. Memento Mori makes my prayer space smell sacred! Incense and a little smoke is how I would describe the scent. Corda candles are my favorite in the sacred candle space. Non-toxic, beautiful scents, and simple, classy labels. I thought this will be a wonderful candle to gift someone grieving, also. Highly recommend!
I got this for my brother for Christmas, and he absolutely loves it.
Corda are my absolute favorite candles! We've purchased *almost* all the scents offered and my personal favorites are:

(We usually get Gifts for a King for Advent/Christmas and Fiat for Marian feasts too!)
We try to buy our year supply before Candlemas so we can have them blessed for the year. Thanks Anna!
