Woohoo, Our Brand New Business!

*** This was originally an April Fools joke for our email subscribers, and we hope you enjoy it, too! You can check out past jokes on the blog: Introducing CORDA 2.0, The Biggest News Since We Launched, and Move Over Compline. ***

As you can probably imagine, running a business with your spouse can have its pros and cons. Still, we can't imagine things any other way, and we're so grateful to be able to work together every day.

Call us crazy, but we love it so much that we're actually starting a second small business together!

Don't get us wrong: we love CORDA and everything it means, and the candles will definitely continue in some capacity. But we also long to have a truly local business, one with more in-person encounters with our incredible customers.

But what kind of business should we start? Well, products that smell amazing are kind of our thing, and also making things with our own hands.

As we talked through ideas, it quickly became obvious: we should make fragrant and delicious bread! (I mean, come on, is there a more Catholic food?!)

It's true that Michael and I have absolutely zero commercial baking experience, but we won't let that stop us. All you need is a dream, right?

A glimpse of what's to come - so exciting!

Just like with our coconut wax candles, we want the bread we make to have amazing ingredients, so we'll be getting a small plot of land to grow and mill our own grains, in order to make things as fresh and nutritious as possible. These will be loaves with true terroir!

And since we value working with our hands over automation, we're planning to sow, harvest, and mill the old-fashioned way, using animals rather than machines. Slight twist, though: I actually really love donkeys, so rather than being horse-powered our farm will be donkey-powered!

Little Beth (short for Bethlehem), resting up for the new venture

If possible, we'd love to keep some kind of connection to our current business, so we were thinking of naming our new bread company CORDOUGH - get it? But when we ran the name past a few people, they said it looked kind of long, and truth be told a little silly.

Well, we really want the name to be perfect, so Michael and I went back to the drawing board and decided to tweak the spelling, and call this new, artisanal, handmade, hyperlocal business

drumroll, please....

COR-DOH

As in, d'oh! April Fools!!!!

Yep, this is all just a joke! (Although we do honestly dream about having a bit of land one day, especially if miniature donkeys are involved.)

If you've been with us for awhile, you may remember we used to do an April Fools email each year. We're hoping to get back to this, so consider this your friendly heads up for next year. 😊

Already scheming for next year's joke!
