Through his prodigious theological works and beautiful Eucharistic hymns, Thomas teaches clearly the truth of God. But after being given a vision of Christ near the end of his life, this Doctor of the Church found he could write no more, saying that all of his works seemed like straw compared to the glory he had seen.
St. Thomas’s feast day is January 28.
You’ll get the cleanest, longest, and safest burn from your candle with a few simple steps:
- Always trim the wick before lighting to 1/8”–1/4”
- Burn until the melted wax reaches edge to edge, or very nearly, to reduce tunneling
- Burn only up to 4 hours at a time
- Always keep a burning candle in sight, away from flammable materials, out of drafts, out of reach of pets and children, and on a heat-safe surface
- Keep out of direct sunlight

A heavier scented candle…perfect for winter months.
Describing a scent is always a bit tricky… I wouldn’t say that this *doesn’t* smell like books and straw, but those can imply a bit of mustiness and this candle is the opposite of musty. It is a very male, very clean scent. If you’ve ever seen the Cistercian abbey chapel in Dallas, very simple, all white stone – this candle smells like that church looks. Think brand-new books and ink, not old and yellowed. Anyway, I really love this candle!
Return customer who loves these candles. Have them in my office at home and in the kitchen. They really warm up the home with an awesome fragrance. Thank you.

I purchased this candle for my brother who studied liberal arts and is very philosophical. Anna captured such a great scent with this one. It reminds me of my many days spent in the library in college - for me a place of great peace. It has the fragrance (yes!) of old books. Might have to think about purchasing another one of these for myself :)
One of my favorite places to study at college was the library; now that I'm studying at home, this candle is truly a blessing, as it reminds me of the still, clean, book-laden smells of that library and helps bring focus back to the task at hand. The connection to St. Thomas is a beautiful reminder of his patronage and the melding of study with love of Christ. And as always with CORDA candles, a lovely bright flame and long burn time!
Thank you for sharing how this candle reminds you of a time and place you loved! We are happy to be a part of that memory! Thanks for the review and feedback Mary! - the CORDA team
This candle is a peaceful masculine aroma. Like all the candles, it burns evenly and last a long time. I will purchase again for Autumn.
Thank you for the feedback on the scent and burn time! We are glad that you are enjoying the candle Margaret! - the CORDA team
I light this one when working on my dissertation or anything I’m trying to publish. Reminds me of the great tradition of thinkers I’m trying to emulate, and helps me breathe through the dense thicket of work ahead of me.
I love to light this candle when I am practicing my writing! It is subtle and calming. I really enjoy it.
Thanks for sharing how this candle fits into your creative life Carmela! We appreciate the review! - the CORDA team
