Gifts for a King
These regal scents of frankincense and myrrh are inspired by the Epiphany.
Nuanced with notes of spices, sweetness, powdery amber, woods, and musk.
Behind the Inspiration
The prophet Isaiah foretold that "nations shall come to your light, and kings to the brightness of your rising" (60:3) and that "They shall bring gold and frankincense, and shall proclaim the praise of the LORD" (60:6). And in St. Matthew's gospel, we hear of "wise men from the East" who followed the light of a star and sought the newborn King of the Jews.
Braving distance, weather, and uncertainty, these magi did not stop until they found the child, and honored him. Epiphany means "manifestation" and on this feast we celebrate Jesus revealing himself as God to the world. These three kings are considered to be the first Gentiles to believe in Christ, and they represent the various nations of the world.
Befitting such a visit, the wise men brought treasures for the new king. Frankincense, myrrh, and gold were all valuable, but there is also a deeper meaning to each. Various interpretations of the gifts have been explored, particularly by the Church Fathers, popes, and theologians. Frankincense was used in worship and points to the divinity of the child; myrrh was used in embalming and points to Jesus' humanity, passion, and death; and gold symbolizes royalty and his kingship.
The Epiphany is a high point in the Christmas season, and is observed on January 6.
O God, who by the guidance of a star didst manifest thine only-begotten Son to the Gentiles, mercifully grant that we who know thee by faith may also attain the vision of thy glorious majesty. Through Christ our Lord. Amen.
You’ll get the cleanest, longest, and safest burn from your candle with a few simple steps:
- Always trim the wick before lighting to 1/8”–1/4”
- Burn until the melted wax reaches edge to edge, or very nearly, to reduce tunneling
- Burn only up to 4 hours at a time
- Always keep a burning candle in sight, away from flammable materials, out of drafts, out of reach of pets and children, and on a heat-safe surface
- Keep out of direct sunlight
I love the scent of Gifts for a King! It makes me feel as if I'm at Mass. I've enjoyed all the Corda candles I've purchased but this may be my favorite scent.
My dad really enjoys the smell of incense. I sent him this candle for his birthday and when he received it he immediately called to tell me how much he liked the scent and ask where he could get more of these candles. Parents can be hard to find gifts for, but this gift was a home run. I also purchased the Gifts for a King tea lights and am planning to hand them out at our Epiphany party.
Lighting this candle allows you to be aromatically led toward Epiphany! Smells lovely.
Every single candle has a unique scent. All awesome…and with a story behind each.
This candle smells amazing. Such a holy fragrance.
I absolutely LOVE everything about this company--Catholic oriented, all natural, names of the products! However, I feel this scent should smell spicier, due to the nature of its theme. I think a better frankincense and myrrh scent would be truer to the name. However, upon me telling my son that it smells more like baby powder, he said maybe that's because it's for BABY Jesus! :D Keep up the great work! What an excellent idea for a company!!
I have enjoyed every candle from Corda (now 10+ different scents), and this one is no exception!
I sent one to my sister and she loved it!
God Bless,
Recipients appreciated a quality candle without chemicals
And
A truly pleasant aroma
