Fount of Mercy
These redemptive scents of hyssop and wood are inspired by Divine Mercy.
Nuanced with notes of herbs, cedar, pine, and cypress.
Behind the Inspiration
Hyssop appears in the Old Testament multiple times and is often used for cleansing. In Psalm 51, the famous lament and cry for mercy, David begs God "Purge me with hyssop, and I shall be clean; wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow." The first time hyssop appears in the Bible is at the Passover, foreshadowing Christ's redemptive love on the Cross, as hyssop was used to spread the blood of the lamb upon the wooden doorposts.
And in the New Testament, in John's gospel, hyssop is present at the Crucifixion. When Jesus upon the wooden Cross cries out "I thirst," hyssop is used to give the Paschal Lamb sour wine. It is at this moment, right before he gives up his spirit to the Father, that Jesus cries out for us. And it was there at the Cross that Jesus's heart was pierced, from which blood and water gushed forth as a fount of mercy for us.
The feast of Divine Mercy, instituted by Pope St. John Paul II, is celebrated on the second Sunday of Easter, concluding the Octave of Easter. The candle's name "Fount of Mercy" is taken from the Chaplet of Divine Mercy, given by Our Lord to St. Maria Faustina.
"There is no misery that could be a match for my mercy, neither will misery exhaust it, because as it is being granted, it increases. The soul that trusts in my mercy is most fortunate, because I myself take care of it" (Diary of St. Faustina, 1273).
You’ll get the cleanest, longest, and safest burn from your candle with a few simple steps:
- Always trim the wick before lighting to 1/8”–1/4”
- Burn until the melted wax reaches edge to edge, or very nearly, to reduce tunneling
- Burn only up to 4 hours at a time
- Always keep a burning candle in sight, away from flammable materials, out of drafts, out of reach of pets and children, and on a heat-safe surface
- Keep out of direct sunlight
Your Fount of Mercy candle was part of a 6 candle shipment sent to Sr. Marie Josepha Kluczny RSM at the RSM Home of Mercy in Tulsa, OK. I do know from past correspondence that the Sisters living there have really enjoyed your scented candles. I am quite sure that your Fount of Mercy candle is very special to them.
My wife loved receiving Corda candles for Christmas and has already been putting them to use to set the mood for morning and evening prayer time, even showing them off at multiple functions in the past week. I am so grateful to the Corda team for the quality of their products and for their witness. I'll definitely be a returning customer!
This candle was small for the price and smelled like an old lady. I don't even want to give it as a gift anymore because the scent is pretty bad.
Hi Megan, thanks for the feedback and review! Thanks for giving the candle a try, and I'm sorry the scent wasn't your preference. If you're interested in a return or an exchange, I'm happy to help and will follow up via email. - Anna
