**Seconds** This candle will have a few cosmetic differences: the lid will be scratched and/or dinged, there will be no hang tag, and the label may not have foil stamping. The scent, the jar, and everything else will be perfect!
These ardent scents of pear and fire are inspired by St. Augustine of Hippo. He is the patron saint of theologians, printers, and brewers. His feast day is August 28.
Behind the Inspiration
In his famous Confessions, St. Augustine recounts a time before his conversion, when he and his friends stole pears from a neighbor, not because they wanted them, but simply for "the stealing of them and the sin," for "our only pleasure in doing it was that it was forbidden."
Always a passionate man, after his conversion Augustine pursued what was true, good, and beautiful with all his heart. Because of this, he is often depicted in art near fire or holding a heart enflamed. St. Augustine's famous cry to God that "Our hearts are restless until they rest in you" exhorts us to continue striving for holiness.
St. Augustine of Hippo, pray for us.
45+ hour burn time | 6 oz. candle
You’ll get the cleanest, longest, and safest burn from your candle with a few simple steps:
- Always trim the wick before lighting to 1/8”–1/4”
- Burn until the melted wax reaches edge to edge, or very nearly, to reduce tunneling
- Burn only up to 4 hours at a time
- Always keep a burning candle in sight, away from flammable materials, out of drafts, out of reach of pets and children, and on a heat-safe surface
- Keep out of direct sunlight
