St. Michael the Archangel | Spices + Sandalwood + Incense
These celestial scents of spices, sandalwood, and incense are inspired by St. Michael the Archangel.
Behind the Inspiration
The name "Michael" comes from the Hebrew and means, "Who is like God?" Jewish tradition holds that this was Michael's battle cry when defending heaven against Satan and all the evil spirits.
The incense in Battle Cry immediately brings to mind prayer and the Mass, reminding us of Heaven. The strong spices, which are a nod to his role as protector and defender, are softened by the sandalwood, which calls to mind his gentler role of accompanying the sick and the dying.
St. Michael is the patron saint of police, soldiers, grocers, radiologists, doctors, mariners, paratroopers, the sick, and the dying, and he has been venerated as a healer from the time of the early Christians. His feast day, often called Michaelmas, is September 29.
St. Michael the Archangel, pray for us.

These two candles smell so good! I love lighting them and filling my space with these scents! I am going to order a candle and match holder for each of my 8 children's families for Christmas! I am so blessed to have stumbled upon this company! Quality matters!
I have tried all (or maybe almost all, by now) of Corda’s scents via the samplers. This is one of my very favorites, and it actually makes me think of holidays and home. Maybe not what you might think from the name Battle Cry, but I think it’s appropriate all the same. Heartening and happy.
This candle has been a fantastic addition to my October morning prayer time. Being up before dawn, it brings heat and light to some otherwise cold and dark mornings. I look forward to continuing the mini-ritual in November with the Memento Mori candle. Thank you for sharing your gift, Anna!
I bought Battle Cry due to the number of people recommending it.
I started lighting it “regularly”while doing at home Stations of the Cross (a Friday night Lenten tradition that changed to an at home event with printed “stations” during COVID lockdowns in 2020). The scent is what I associate with my prayer time in the mornings. I’ve recently ordered two more.
I love keeping this candle on a shelf with other Christian decor. It’s very elegant—colors for the lid and label. I like having it out for others to see. I always hope that people will ask “what does Battle Cry”smell like. When they do I tell them about the story behind CORDA candles and how I read that she, the candle maker, reads up on various saints and learns about their lives, their hobbies, etc… and gets a scent in mind and works on a scent for a long time until she gets it just right (like Bl. Pier Giorgio Frassiti—avid outdoorsman so the scent is mountain air and pipe smoke!).
I think CORDA seems like an awesome story and company and I want to patronize good Catholic companies.
I love all of the scents that I have tried and they really last a long time. So far, my favorites are Battle Cry and Roses in Winter.

I buy a lot of candles, and I am blown away at the quality of CORDA. There’s no comparing these to any you can buy that are mass produced. I bought two candles for my husband’s birthday and we look forward to lighting them each day. The scent fills the room, and we’ve said, “It just smells SO GOOD” every time we light one. I highly recommend and plan to purchase again. I am really looking forward to trying different scents and seeing which new ones come out!
We are so happy that both you and your husband are enjoying the scents! Our small business appreciates your feedback on the quality of the candles; something very important to us. Thanks for the review Sallie! - the CORDA team
