Behind the Inspiration
Hyssop appears in the Old Testament multiple times and is often used for cleansing. In Psalm 51, the famous lament and cry for mercy, David begs God "Purge me with hyssop, and I shall be clean; wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow." The first time hyssop appears in the Bible is at the Passover, foreshadowing Christ's redemptive love on the Cross, as hyssop was used to spread the blood of the lamb upon the wooden doorposts.
And in the New Testament, in John's gospel, hyssop is present at the Crucifixion. When Jesus upon the wooden Cross cries out "I thirst," hyssop is used to give the Paschal Lamb sour wine. It is at this moment, right before he gives up his spirit to the Father, that Jesus cries out for us. And it was there at the Cross that Jesus's heart was pierced, from which blood and water gushed forth as a fount of mercy for us.
The feast of Divine Mercy, instituted by Pope St. John Paul II, is celebrated on the second Sunday of Easter, concluding the Octave of Easter. The candle's name "Fount of Mercy" is taken from the Chaplet of Divine Mercy, given by Our Lord to St. Maria Faustina.
"There is no misery that could be a match for my mercy, neither will misery exhaust it, because as it is being granted, it increases. The soul that trusts in my mercy is most fortunate, because I myself take care of it" (Diary of St. Faustina, 1273).
Holy Faith collection | 45+ hour burn time | 6 oz. candle
You’ll get the cleanest, longest, and safest burn from your candle with a few simple steps:
- Always trim the wick before lighting to 1/8”–1/4”
- Burn until the melted wax reaches edge to edge, or very nearly, to reduce tunneling
- Burn only up to 4 hours at a time
- Always keep a burning candle in sight, away from flammable materials, out of drafts, out of reach of pets and children, and on a heat-safe surface
- Keep out of direct sunlight
This candle is truly exceptional. In my humble opinion. It is soothing, calming, and is a beautiful addition when praying. Invokes great serenity! Thank you, Anna for such a delightful experience.
I love so many of these candles! This particular one exudes the warmth of peace and calm. The aroma is hard to describe, but purely perfect!
Although I am allergic to fragrances, this candle didn't bother me at all and I burned it for four hours on Divine Mercy Sunday. It made my condominium smell wonderful!
I purchased this for a birthday gift for a friend, but did take a whiff before I wrapped it! It didn’t disappoint! Smells terrific!
I wasn’t sure what a hyssop and wood candle would smell like, but because I wanted something special for the Divine Mercy /post-Easter season, I thought I would try it. It was PERFECT. It was a very calming, peaceful scent. Not flowery, not incense-like, but very clean with a fresh wood scent that somehow had a sacred overtone to it. Hard to describe exactly, and I have no idea how Anna came up with it, but truly she was inspired because I cannot imagine a more perfect scent for Divine Mercy.
This is a fresh, crisp distinctive scent. A most welcome fragrance. Beauty in spring
LOVE! Bought a few more as gifts for friends and family. Corda is my new go-to candle and the Divine Mercy scent is heavenly.
This candle has a wonderful light fragrance. I would definitely buy it again!
I’ve purchased these candles multiple times. I often buy for gifts as well, even though I struggle to let them leave! The scents really tie to the Saint/theme noted and we have them spread throughout our home. It’s a wonderful gift for a Catholic friend and a great way to share about this small business with others who appreciate the effort and work as well as the product they produce!
The ancient combination of hyssop and wood in Corda’s Divine Mercy is calming and grounded.
